Owls!

Happy Saturday!  This week we had a great time learning about owls!  On Monday we made these Polka Dot Owls.  I found the idea on Pinterest, but there was no link back to the original source.  During table time the kids used Dot Art markers to decorate a piece of white construction paper.  We let that part dry and finished the owls during art time.

My little darlings worked hard layering the circles for the eyes and folding the square into a triangle for the beak.

During table time on Monday, we cut triangles for another owl project.  We collected all of the triangles and put them in a bag for our colorful triangle owls. 

During art time on Tuesday, they cut out three sets of circle eyes for the triangle owls and then we went to work assembling them.  

I forgot to take a picture of the finished owls, but we're putting them up around the room, so I'll get some pictures of them.  Here's a picture of the example from Splish Splash Splatter

On Wednesday we made paper plate owls.  We folded the plate into the owl shape and then the kids added a scrapbook paper rectangle for the owl's belly.  Then they scribbled on the wings and glued the eyes, beak, and feet on.  And, I didn't get a picture of this project all finished either!  Man, I was a real slacker this week!  ;)

They LOVED getting to scribble on the ridges of the plate!

Thursday we read Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and watched {this} YouTube version.  Then, we made our own owl babies sitting on a branch.  We were very brave and gave each child their very own bottle of glue.  They were in heaven getting to be in charge of the liquid glue!! The good news is that I don't think we have to worry about ANY pieces falling off of this project!

Ms. Mary and I made the circle outline for the babies and they filled it in with glue.

During circle time, we matched the lower case letters on the owl babies to the uppercase letters on the owl moms.  You can download this for free at Jennifer Hier's TPT store.  

I also made a memory match game.  The kids had to match the numeral to the corresponding ten frame.
