Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses

This week we continued our clothing unit by talking about the accessories we wear with our clothes, like sunglasses.  So of course we had to read Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses!

Each cutie decorated a pair of paper sunglasses.  We found the free printable at Picklebums.

After they decorated them, we laminated them and cut them out.  Then they colored the lenses!

And, voila! Magic sunglasses!

We also made sunglasses for our Pete's to wear.  They painted with blue watercolors and then glued to "D's" together to make sunglasses.  We found the idea at Creativity Takes Flight.

How cool do our Pete's look now?!

We were lucky enough to have students from the nearby middle school come read to our class this week.  The kids loved having visitors read to them!  They were definitely on their best behavior!

We ended the week by celebrating Ms. Lynn's birthday!  Our class was very excited for Lynn's birthday and getting cookies was an added treat!

Thanks for stopping by!

Winter Fun and Pete the Cat

We've been really lucky here with a pretty mild winter, but this week was pretty cold and we had several small snow events.  We're continuing our unit on clothes and having fun with Pete the Cat. During free play, these cuties set up the stuffed animals on the rug where we read together and read Pete the Cat books to them!  I LOVE seeing them choosing to read books and retelling the story to others!

We made this activity last year, but this was the first time that we've done it this year.  There are pictures of colored popsicle sticks and the kids have to find the right colored sticks and match them to the picture.  There are varying difficulty levels and they all impressed me with how well they did!  The idea is from The Connection We Share.

We also worked on body parts with Pete.  The kids glued the labels on for Pete's body parts.  This was a free printable, but I can't remember where we found it!

This handsome fella celebrated his birthday this week!

Thursday we had a bit of a surprise snow storm!  After lunch it started snowing pretty hard and kept snowing all afternoon!  After snack we bundled up and went out into the snow for a few minutes.  It was so much fun for all of us!

It's hard to tell, but they're jumping here!

Thanks for stopping by!

Valentine's Day and Pete the Cat

This week we learned that Valentine's Day is about showing people that you care about them.  We talked about how saying and doing nice things makes people happy.  We also finished our Pete the Cat faces.  In my last post, What do we know about clothes,  I showed you pictures of the kids painting their Pete the Cat faces.  On Monday my little artists finished the project.  We found the idea for this project at Creativity Takes Flight.

Of course the finished cats had to be displayed by our Pete the Cat door!

We had one day this week that was warm enough for outdoor recess and this cutie drew Pete the Cat with sidewalk chalk!

I love seeing their creativity!

On Tuesday the afternoon class worked on a color and counting Valentine's book.

On Wednesday we decorated paper sacks for them to put their valentines in.

One of the morning sweeties brought in treats to share with his friends on Wednesday!

On Thursday we had our Valentine's Party and the kids passed out their valentines.  We put a picture of each cutie by their name on their bag and set them up on the table.  We called each sweetie over and helped them pass out their valentines.  The kids did a great job of finding each person's picture/name and passing out their valentines!

These are the valentines I gave the kids.  I found the idea and the free printable at Shanty 2 Chic.  I gave the girls the Hugs and Kisses and the boys the gummy worms.

One of the sweet families in the afternoon class gave these personalized stuffed animals to each cutie and to the adults.  To say we loved them would be an understatement!  They were so excited and a few of them said it was their favorite part of the day!

We have some pretty amazing parents!  We had two parents send in cupcakes for our party and they were a big hit!

We finished the day by sorting conversation hearts.  After they sorted them by color they were able to eat a few and then they took the rest home.

After the afternoon class sorted their hearts they graphed them so that they could see how many they had of each color.  Before they could eat their candy they had to tell us which color they had the most of and which color they had the least of.

We had a fun week!  I hope that you all have a great Valentine's Day!
