I'm still trying to catch up from a busy last few weeks! It's cold and a little snowy here which is making me want to stay in my warm home, so hopefully I'll get caught up on a few things today!
Here's a look at what we did for Thanksgiving. During table time my little darlings colored coffee filters with markers and we sprayed them with a little water to make the colors bleed. The next day they made them into turkeys. I'm so happy to see the progress they're making with their gluing skills!
The next day we made feather headbands. I wrote the letters of their name onto the feathers with a yellow marker and then they traced over them and put them in order. We wrote their name onto dry erase boards to help them figure out the order. Once the letters were in order, they glued them on the headband. When we were finished we toured the school and showed off their great work!
The Monday before Thanksgiving we called the kids over one or two at a time and had them paint the edge of a half of a paper plate for a turkey hat and start a hand print turkey.
On Tuesday, we started by finishing their hand print turkey. After they glued the body and face pieces on, they used markers to add the waddle and legs. With some modeling and an example, they did a great job!
Then we finished our turkey hats. The kids had to fold strips of paper for the legs and then add the face pieces. I love seeing them with their silly hats on!
We also made turkey tracks out of pipe cleaners twisted into a turkey foot shape.
During circle time we used uni-fix cubes to measure turkeys. We compared the size of the turkeys and also talked about measuring width and height.
We also worked on patterning. The first two rows of turkeys we patterned together. For the last row, I gave each of my little darlings two colors and had them create their own pattern. I was pleasantly surprised with how well they did creating their own pattern!
We counted turkey feathers and then compared which turkey had more feathers.
I showed them the greater than/less than signs and we practiced saying it in a sentence.
We finished the week with a special Thanksgiving snack. We had turkey sandwiches, potato chips, and either a cupcake or cookie.
After the snack, we broke into groups and they measured turkeys...
And matched uni-fix cubes to turkeys and then counted how many they had of each color.
Here's our class turkey! Each child picked a construction paper feather and we sent it home with them. Their homework was to decorate it and send it back in so we had a fully dressed turkey. They loved showing off their finished feather and seeing it on the turkey!
Thanks for stopping by!
