Five Senses for Five for Friday!

It's time for Doodle Bugs Teaching's weekly linky party!

 

This week we learned about our five senses.  We started the week by putting together a Mr. Potato Head five senses project.  We discussed what body part was used for each sense as the little darlings assembled their projects.  Afterwards, we helped them label what each body part is used for. 

 

 

We used our sense of touch and played with shaving cream.

 

We also made scented play dough so that we could explore our sense of smell and touch.  If you'd like the recipe, click here.

 

On Wednesday, we joined up with Ms. Lola's class to test our sense of smell.  We had seven scents for the little cuties to smell and then asked them to identify the scent. 

 

With the afternoon class, we had them find the baggie with the same scent they had.  It was so much fun seeing them work together to find their partner!

We ended the week with a Five Senses Sorting worksheet.  The little darlings surprised me with how well they could identify which sense was used for each picture. 

Then, we teamed up with Ms. Lola's class to make a five senses person.  We put bells on the ears for hearing, essential oil on a cotton ball nose for smelling, licorice mouth for tasting, wiggle eyes for seeing, and sandpaper and/or textured wallpaper hands for touching.  

 

And, as our final activity, we had a taste testing!  We tried dill pickles, garlic cheese bread potato chips, radishes, Hot Tamales, Sour Patch Kids, icing, and licorice. 

 

This little cutie had a birthday this week and brought in Minion cupcakes to celebrate!  They were a big hit!

 

As you can see, it was a "Sense-ational" week!  Please forgive me for the lame pun, but I couldn't resist!  It really was a fun week!

Laundry Time {Five for Friday}

 

Its time for Doodle Bugs Teaching's weekly linky party!  This week our theme was laundry and the kids loved it!  I loved all of the great concepts we were able to incorporate into the theme! 

 

On Monday, we made muddy pants.  I took brown paint and added coffee grounds and a few wood chips for added texture.  Then, I gave the little darlings a shower puff and let them muddy up their pants.

 

This little darling was not so sure about the activity!

On Tuesday, we made clean T-shirts.  We mixed dish soap, liquid watercolors, and water together.  Then they blew bubbles in it and we printed the bubbles on a T-shirt pattern.  They loved blowing bubbles and letting them overflow out of the container!

 

Wednesday, we printed bubbles onto a towel cut out.

 

Thursday, we teamed up with Ms. Lola's class and took the sensory tables outside and filled them with soapy water.  We added doll clothes and let the kids wash them. 

 

During table time, we worked on identifying color words.

 

We also cut apart pictures of clothing with the letters of each child's name.  Then they matched them to the corresponding clothespin. 

 

We also practiced identifying numbers and counting.  For the morning class, I highlighted the number of socks they were to glue on each clothesline. 

 

During circle time we matched up socks.

 

And, as an added bonus Ms. Mary, our speech pathologist, did a language group with us!  She read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and then used props to help retell the story and answer comprehension questions.

 



 

As you can see, it was a great week!

I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! {Five for Friday}

 

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her weekly Five for Friday linky party.

 

We had a great week full of lots of fun!  My friend Lola from Preschool Wonders and I teamed up to work on an I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! unit.  If you'd like to see her post about this week, click here.

 

 We started the week by reading I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont.  Then we painted and painted and painted some more!  First, each of my little darlings painted a page for our class book of colors. 

 

 

Here's the almost finished product.  I just need to hole punch it and attach the book rings. 

 

Then, we moved outside with Ms. Lola's class and painted with watercolors...

 

 

 

 

 

and painted with water on the sidewalk...

 

and used sidewalk chalk...

 

and finally, we moved over to the swing set and painted.

 

 

We also made a crayon resist painting with the kids initials.  Before the little darlings painted, my paraprofessional, Ms. Mary, and I used white crayons to draw their initial on the paper.  Then, we gave them watercolors and told them their was a hidden surprise on their paper. 

 

 

 

We finished the week by reading White Rabbit's Color Book by Alan Baker.  Ms. Lola and I (with the help of our amazing paraprofessionals) teamed up to read the story and do our own color mixing.  We cut rabbits out of coffee filters and used watered down liquid watercolors to show the kids how secondary colors are made.  Each of the sweeties had an orange, green, and purple rabbit to take home. 



 

During table time, we worked on identifying and matching colors with this crayons worksheet. 

At circle time we also introduced the color words and asked them to match the picture to the color word.

 

So, do you see why I said we had a fun week?!  And messy, it was a little messy, but definitely fun.
