What I Did on my Summer Vacation

As summer vacation is drawing to a close, I've been thinking about how I've spent my vacation.  I didn't go to any exotic places, but it's been a memorable summer.  I love the freedom that summer brings and being able to spend more time with family and friends.  So without further ado, here's a list of what I did on my summer vacation!
  1. I got engaged!  Kelby and I have been dating for a little over two and a half years.  His cousin, Carrie, is a good friend of mine and set us up.  The best part of the story is that Carrie's mom set up Kelby's parents!  Here's a picture of us just a few months after  we started dating.
On Monday, June 29th, we went to dinner on the Plaza and then went to a park that we like to walk in.
When we got to the park, Kelby got out a Rally House bag and said he had a gift for me.  There was lots of guessing and then he said he'd take a picture of me holding it and then show me what it was.  So, I closed my eyes and he place this jersey in my hands and then took my picture.  He showed me the picture and then got down on one knee and proposed.  I said "Yes!!" *Actually, I think I said, "Thank you!"
  2. Planning a wedding!  After the engagement, there's been a lot of wedding planning.  We're getting married next summer, so we still have lots of time, but I've been trying to get the big things figured out before the busyness of the school year starts.
  3. Family fun at the lake!  On Father's Day weekend, Kelby and I went with my parents to visit family friends (who are more like family) at their lake house.  My mom has a day care and started taking care of these kids (I know, they're not kids anymore) and their older sister when they were babies.  When they were younger, I would babysit and nanny them.  They've just been apart of our family since they were little.  They spent the summer with their Great Aunt and Uncle and worked at a restaurant on the lake.  We had so much fun visiting them!
My mom rode on a jet ski when we went to breakfast on Sunday!
  4. Lots of lunching!  One of my favorite things about summer is being able to meet friends and family for lunch.
  5. Continuing education classes.  For the last few years, I've been working on my continuing education hours.  I have my masters degree, so I need to have 40 hours of either another degree or continuing education.  I took 8 hours this summer, so now I have finished 32 hours!  Almost there!
  6. Time on the farm!  Kelby and his family have farm land about 45 minutes from here.  Kelby helped out on the farm most weekends, I helped out a little, and we had several Sunday night dinners at his parent's house.  Pork burgers on the grill are delicious!  We saw lots of beautiful sunsets and I know more than I ever thought I would about the hay bailing process!

  7. Relaxing, swimming, shopping, etc.  I haven't been able to swim as much as I would have liked, but I've spent lots of time relaxing, hanging out with friends, and just enjoying the extra free time.
It's been a pretty amazing summer!  It feels like the summer flew by, but it also seems like May was so long ago!  I'm sad to see summer come to a close, but I'm excited for a new school year.  I always love seeing all of the growth and changes in my returning students and meeting the new students and their families.  I hope this is a great year!

Thanks for stopping by!
