Hey there, remember me??? I don't even have a good excuse for why I haven't posted in so long! So, forgive me because this post will be all over the place and have lots of pictures!!
Let's start way back in December, okay? We worked on matching numbers and following directions while we played this decorate the tree game. Each child picked a number that corresponded to an item to put on the tree. They had to find that number to figure out what color ornament they could put on the tree.
We worked on spatial concepts, first with a real candy cane and then they glued a picture of a candy cane in the correct position in their book.
Each cutie worked on patterning and fine motor skills while they made a beaded candy cane ornament.
Ms. Mary was "lucky" enough to sub in our room while we were working on the Christmas present the kids gave to their parents. :) We made a calendar with each sweetie's hand print made into something special for each month.
I think they turned out super cute! I think (and hope) they'll be something their parents will treasure.
We tied it up with curling ribbon and added their ornament to the front.
We also worked on patterning with the dot-art markers. We started with simple AB patterns and worked up to AAB and AABB patterns. We have some smart kids who caught on pretty quickly!
Sadly, over the last month we've had two kids move away. We took one last picture with our "original" class. While we miss the two that moved, the kids were very excited to have a "new kid" in class!
We had our Cocoa and Cookies party scheduled for our last day of school in December, but it was a snow day! We rescheduled it and had it the first Thursday in January. We had lots of parents attend and everyone loved drinking cocoa and eating cookies. After snack, we showed our visitors some of the winter games we've been playing.
A few weeks ago we had a really fun program put on by Young Audiences. They had a fun activity for each letter of the alphabet. The kids LOVED it!
We made these fun torn paper snowmen.
I think they look pretty cute on our bulletin board!
We worked on sequencing the steps of making a snowman.
Last week we read Jan Brett's The Mitten and worked on a mitten art project. We showed the kids how to make asterisks for snowflakes with light grey crayons. The next day they used watercolors to paint their paper. Then they glued tissue paper squares onto a half-sheet of paper. We'll cut the mittens out on Monday and they'll glue it onto their snowy scene. I can't wait to see what they look like when they're all finished!
On Thursday we acted out The Mitten, using a blanket as Nikki's mitten. They thought that was pretty exciting!
This sweet girl had a birthday earlier in the month.
I always love the post-cupcake pictures!!
And, no, I did not tell them to pose this way. That was the result of me saying "squeeze together!" :)
Guess what?! I think I'm all caught up! I promise not to wait so long to post again!
Thanks for stopping by!
