What Names Do We Need to Know at School?

fiveforfriday2_thumb[3]

We did it...we survived the first full week of school!  It was a great week and we're enjoying getting to know each other.  Our focus question this week was, "What names do we need to know at school?"  We worked on learning the kid's names, the adult's names, names of the areas in our classroom, and names of items in our classroom.

During table time this week, we played with manipulatives,

practiced coloring and identifying color words,

and played on the iPads.

During circle time we read A Pocket for Corduroy and talked about why we need to know each other's names.  We also read Love is a Family and talked about how our families are all different.

We labeled a variety of objects in our classroom and discussed how we use them.  Here I'm explaining what we use the pointer for.

We also discussed how and when we use a glue stick.

We had lots of fun playing during center time!

During center time, each child drew a self portrait or a picture of their family and we displayed it on our bulletin board in the hallway.

We also celebrated two birthdays this week!  That meant two days of yummy cupcakes!

I think we're off to a great start!
Thanks for stopping by!

The First Day of School 2014!

Today was the first day of school and it was a great day!  I think this is going to be a fun, busy, and exciting year!  Our focus today was getting familiar with school and learning the routines.  We started the day at the table with manipulatives and then went outside for recess.

We came back inside for circle time, where we read Llama Llama Misses Mama and introduced ourselves.  Then it was center time--they were all DYING to play with the toys!  After center time, we cleaned up for snack.

After they finished snack, they looked at books until our end of the day circle time.  We ended the day by reading David Goes to School and singing a few songs.  The morning class LOVED singing!

The day flew by, but it was a pretty awesome day!  We have some super cute kids and some fantastic parents, so I think it's going to be an amazing year!  I can't wait to share it with you!

Have a great weekend!
