Exploring Trees!

Over the last two weeks we've started exploring trees and the kids are really enjoying the unit!  The first day of the unit it rained ALL day long!

So, we stayed inside and worked on putting trees in order from smallest to biggest.

The next day we examined parts of trees from our playground.

We also put the leaves in size order.

Then we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

During Center Time, each sweetie made a tree using a coffee filter and dot art markers.

On Wednesday there was a mishap with the maintenance crew on the roof and water was leaking into our classroom!  Luckily nothing important was ruined, but we had to take everything off of the top two shelves.  So, with wet carpet and things spread all over the floor we decided to have extra recess and then Ms. Mary did a language group with us in the library and Ms. Lindsey did play group with us.  The kids handled the changes well and it ended up being a good day!

During Ms. Lindsey's play group, we worked together to stack chopsticks on the cup without knocking them off.  We made it around the circle several times before they fell!

On Thursday we were finally able to go a nature walk up to the wooded area by our school.

As we were walking up, we saw a snake on the sidewalk!

They all had so much fun collecting parts of the trees!

After they collected all of their goodies, the allure of the hill was too much for them and they all started running up and down it.

We came back to the room and each sweetie shared some of their finds with the group.

The bean pods make great mustaches!  :)

The second week we explored the circumference of the trees on our playground.  We used a tape measure to find the circumference and then cut a piece of yarn that length so that we could compare the circumferences when we went back inside.

During Center Time, each cutie drew a picture of a tree.

As you can see, it's been a busy but fun two weeks!

The Firemen Visit 2014!

The firemen visited our school this week!  This is always one of our favorite days!  First we went outside and looked at the fire engine and then we went inside.

Inside, the firemen explained the purpose of each part of their gear and also wanted the kids to understand what they look like with all of their gear on so that the kids aren't scared in an emergency.

They all had the chance to give the fireman a high-five.

These are always my favorite pictures of the year!

Look at all the cuties in the fire engine!
